Patrick Mahomes buzzing Chiefs drafted ‘fastest NFL player ever’ to play alongside Travis Kelce in Andy Reid’s supercharged offense
Patrick Mahomes has a potent new weapon at his disposal.
During Thursday’s NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy with the No. 28 pick.
The Chiefs traded up from No. 32 with the Buffalo Bills to land Worthy and Mahomes is buzzing at the prospect of having another speedster to throw to.
The KC QB posted a smiling face with sunglasses emoji as well as a sprinter emoji.
He also retweeted teammate Hollywood Brown’s post which read: “Ohh yeah we lit”.
Fans were praising the Chiefs for pulling off the shrewd move and were dreaming of Mahomes linking up with the fastest player in NFL history.
Worthy set an NFL Combine record in March by running the 40-yard dash in 4.21 seconds.
He broke John Ross’ previous record – who was drafted one place before Mahomes in 2017 – by 0:01 seconds.
The Chiefs are gearing up for a three-peat bid next season and fans think the addition of a receiver like Worthy puts them in pole position for another Super Bowl title.
“Rest of the NFL seeing the Chiefs getting the fastest player of all time,” said one fan.
“Game breaking speed coming to the kingdom,” added another.
“Andy Reid adding the fastest combine player ever to his offense,” posted another along with a gif of Marvel villain Thanos adding an Infinity Stone.
“Nobody is stopping you next season,” a fourth wrote.

Prior to the NFL Draft, Worthy said he’d be the ‘perfect’ player for the Chiefs.
“Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you. They had Tyreek Hill,” Worthy said.
“The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me.”
The Chiefs’ wideout room has been viewed as a weakness since they trading ‘Cheetah’ to the Dolphins in 2022.
Kadarius Toney made a number of costly errors last season while Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII, has been released.
Add to that the off-field issues with Rashee Rice and it was clear Andy Reid’s team needed a new pass catcher.
And now they have that.
Worthy had 197 catches for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns during his career at Texas.
He passed for more than 1,000 yards during his third season in 2023.
The defending Super Bowl champions have now made a number of excellent roster moves to strengthen ahead of the new season.
They lost star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Titans but resigned other defensive stalwarts Chris Jones, Drue Tranquill and Mike Danna.
Reid’s coaching staff also added Hollywood Brown to their wideout room and have found a Super Bowl-winning QB to backup Mahomes.
The addition of former Wales rugby union star Louis Rees-Zammit soon followed.
The Chiefs are looking armed and dangerous ahead of the new season – the rest of the NFL will surely be on notice.
Worthy has already spoken to media about what he’ll be looking to add to the reigning champions next season.
“Man, I’m coming with the mentality to work hard and earn my spot in the locker room,” Worthy said.
“I feel like I’m a complete receiver. I can run the whole route tree, disciplined, smart, know the game very well, so I feel like I’m bringing a complete receiver to Kansas City.”
