The couple have been looking for new ways to make money through their many ventures in the entertainment industry to pay for their costly security needs and $9.5million mortgage for their Montecito mansion in California.

The pair made an unexpected visit to Jamaica this week to attend the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love and support the Marley family, and were guests of Paramount Pictures which distributed the film.

This sparked fears that Harry and Meghan’s could become ‘Royals for hire’, with insiders reportedly saying a deal could be in the pipeline between Paramount and the couple.

Although the couple’s funding may have been boosted by the Queen’s will, their expenses remain high due to huge security costs and their lavish Californian lifestyle.

An insider told The Sun: ‘We said, ”why not just move to a smaller house and live quietly?” but the answer was clear – they need security.’

The pair are believed to employ a long list of private security guards at their mansion and work closely with security experts TorchStone, using Barack Obama’s former bodyguard Christopher Sanchez, and Christopher Keenan, who worked for Hillary Clinton.

Prince Harry remains employed as Chief Impact Officer at BetterUp, the mental health coaching start-up company, but has reportedly been criticised by its staff – with one claiming Harry contributed ‘zero things’. The firm is believed to have laid off 16 per cent of its staff last August.

It comes as the couple were branded ‘insensitive’ after posing with Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who wants to ditch the monarchy – just as King Charles prepares for prostate treatment and the Princess of Wales recovers in hospital from abdominal surgery.

According to The Times, the timing of Harry and Meghan’s visit to Jamaica this week as guests of Brian Robbins, the chief executive of Paramount, was not received particularly well by those at Buckingham Palace due to both political and personal reasons.

According to the newspaper, one well-placed source said the trip was ‘not especially welcome back in London’ while another said the excursion was ‘misguided’.
