Critics of Jason Kelce are calling out his reckless behavior and urging him to refrain from drinking after he confessed to losing his beloved Super Bowl ring in a vat of Skyline chili while under the influence.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Now-retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce admits he’s been prone to misplace his championship ring from Super Bowl LII.
It now appears it’s permanently lost. How it was lost is the strange part.
In his latest “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Jason says the ring likely is gone for good after it was placed in a pool of Skyline chili during the Lombaby Games last weekend at the University of Cincinnati.
There’s a lot to sort out here.
The Kelce brothers both played football at Cincinnati, so they created the Lombaby Games in which “jocks” vs. “nerds” challenge each other in a series of strange competitions. One of the competitions had two students combing through pools of Skyline chili, which includes chili, cheese, and spaghetti, in search of socks with several decoy Super Bowl rings tied to them.
“This game existed because I continuously lose my Super Bowl ring,” Jason Kelce says in the podcast.
However, one of the rings in the chili was Jason Kelce’s actual Super Bowl ring. It wasn’t found.
“I legitimately lost my Super Bowl ring in this event,” Jason says in the podcast as Travis shakes his head in disbelief. “They could not find it. … We have still yet to find it. All of this stuff has now been thrown away, so I think we can safely assume that my Super Bowl ring is now in a landfill someplace in the Cincinnati tri-state area. I didn’t think that would happen.”
“What did you expect to happen?”
Travis says.
“I thought we would just go in the pool and get the ring afterwards,” Jason says.
“You are such a (expletive) imbecile,” Travis says.
Jason says he believes the sock with his ring might have been kicked out of the pool at some point during the competition and that it was “thrown away in some shape or form.”
But yes, the Super Bowl ring is officially gone,” he says.
An insurance claim has been submitted for the ring, but Jason admits the insurance company “might have some things to say” about whether it will cover the loss. The Eagles Super Bowl ring, which is made of 10k white gold with 219 diamonds and 17 green sapphires, cost $11,270 each in 2018, according to Forbes.
The Kelce brothers grew up in Cleveland Heights.
