JAY-Z CREDITED WITH INSPIRING TIERRA WHACK’S NEW JOKER-THEMED ALBUM
JAY-Z‘s influence can be felt in both Hip Hop and business, but it appears he had a hand in shaping Tierra Whack‘s new album in a more subtle way.
Earlier this week, the Philadelphia native announced her long-awaited debut album World Wide Whack, which will be released on March 15.
The fittingly wacky cover art shows Tierra wearing a clown-esque outfit and sitting on a crescent stage prop in front of a giant “Joker” playing card.
Following the news, some fans traced the whimsical theme to quotes from an old Tierra Whack interview in which she revealed that JAY-Z once called her “the Joker of Hip Hop.”
Speaking to Apple Music in 2021 following the release of her Rap? EP, she said: “So I’ve seen the most recent Joker, the movie, about five times, it’s like one of my favorite movies.
“I watched it once just by myself when it first came out and then I had a conversation with JAY-Z and he was like, ‘Yo, you’re the Joker of the game.’ And I’m like, ‘What does that mean?’
“And he’s like, ‘You come off happy but there’s a dark side.’ And honestly it stuck with me. And I’m just like, ‘You know what? That’s exactly who I am. I’m the Joker. I’m the wild card.’”
Tierra was praised by people online for seemingly taking Hov’s shrewd insight and turning it into a full-blown album concept.
Tierra Whack Thinks ‘Light Skin’ Eminem Is ‘The Best Rapper Ever’
Tierra Whack announced World Wide Whack on Monday (January 22), writing on social media: “I really took my time with this, so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.”
“I like how she didn’t get upset with Jay-Z referring to her as the joker and turned what he said into something positive,” one X user wrote.
Another said: “It’s so cool that Jay-Z recently referred to @TierraWhack as hip-hop’s joker, and she’s completely ran away with the comparison even putting it in her own album cover.”
