The actress, 49, who was then 22 years old in 1997, got emotional and teared up during an interview with 60 Minutes as she remembered the criticism about her weight at the time.

Beginning to tear up, she said: ‘I did get face-to-face. I let them have it. I said, “I hope this haunts you”.
‘It was a great moment because it wasn’t just for me, it was for all those people who were subjected to that level of harassment. It was horrific, it was really bad.’
The interview includes a cut to a red carpet host telling Winslet she looked ‘a little melted and poured’ into a dress and that she should’ve worn a gown ‘two sizes larger.’

Speaking on her new role, which sees her play a Elizabeth Lee Miller, a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II, Winslet recalled a recent moment when a crew member asked to her to ‘suck in’.
‘People say “oh you were so brave for this role because you’re not wearing any makeup”.
‘Do we say to the men, “oh you were so brave for this role, you grew a beard”? No we don’t. It happens to me all the time. It’s not brave, it’s playing the part.’
Asked if it’s true whether or not a crew member asked her to sit up because she was showing a lump, she said: ‘Yeah, you might want to kind of just suck in and sit up.
