Star gymnast Simone Biles has revealed having suffered an emotional breakdown due to the backlash her husband, Jonathan Owens, received for claiming he did not know who she was before they began dating.
Owens, an NFL safety who joined the Chicago Bears after a season with the Green Bay Packers, revealed he wasnât aware of who Biles was during an interview on âThe Pivotâ late in 2023.
He also declared he was âthe catch,â recalling she drove hours to meet him for the first time.
The comments prompted a wave of criticism and abuse, which Biles admits got to her.
âHe said he was a catch,â she said on the âCall Her Daddyâ podcast (H/T Marca). âBecause he is! Iâve never met a man like him. I thought it was hilarious at first and then it hurt my feelings.
âOne night I broke down and Iâm like, âWhy are you guys talking about my husband like this? You donât know him. You donât know who he is and if anybodyâs met him, you know heâs the sweetest guy, will do anything for anybody.ââ

As for Owens, he was still in college when the gymnast shot to fame and didnât care for the Olympics at all. Of course, he cares now.
Still, fans who keep abreast got on his back over his comments despite Biles confirming what he said and asking them to lay off him.
Simone Biles Reveals Jonathan Owens Only Recently Applied For His First Passport
According to Simone Biles, her husband only recently acquired a passport to support her at the 2024 Olympic Games.
âI mean, in Paris I think they will do a beautiful job and he doesnât travel overseas too much,â Biles noted. âHe had to get a passport â he never had a passport before. Iâm excited for him to see the Olympics because footballâs not in the Olympics and he always says itâs the hardest sport, itâs universal. So, why is it not in the Olympics?â
