Tom Brady praises Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce for breaking his record
Mahomes and Kelce became the highest-scoring QB/Receiver pairing in the postseason.
Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski formed one of the best duos in NFL history, setting countless records in their long careers. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce just broke one of those records this Sunday, and Brady couldn’t be happier.
Brady and Gronk held the record for the most touchdowns in the postseason for a QB/Receiver duo, with 15. Of this number, 12 were scored in the eight years they shared with the New England Patriots, and the remaining three occurred during their brief stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mahomes and Kelce reached 16 in the 2024 Divisional Round game against the Buffalo Bills, all of them in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform.
Following the feat, Brady immediately took to his social media to congratulate the Chiefs’ dynamic duo. “BEASTS. When you one-up Gronk, you’re doing something right,”Brady said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
In the press conference after the 27-24 victory over the Bills, Mahomes was aware of who he had just surpassed.
“Passing anything that has Brady and Gronk in it is special because those are two of the greatest players. Tom is the greatest player, and [Rob is] one of the greatest tight ends of all time, and postseason players,” the Chiefs signal-caller recalled.
He also recognized Kelce’s work over the years. “To be mentioned in that, and passing [them], you appreciate that. It speaks to Travis and his work, him being able to go out there and make plays in big games,” Mahomes stated.
Despite the recent feat, it is worth remembering that Brady and Gronkowski retired undefeated against the Mahomes and Kelce’s Chiefs, with a 2-0 record in the playoffs.
The first time, the Pats beat the Chiefs 27-20 in the 2019 Divisional Round. The second time, the Buccaneers destroyed the Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV.
